We are born without knowing who we are. We grow up and begin to sense where we belong. We become adults… and we still don’t know who we are, but we long to belong somewhere. On Saturday, September 21, at 6:00 PM, we will premiere our children’s play, The Ugly Duckling, a new solo performance by Emese Erdei, directed by László Rumi.
Plays for children have always held an important place in the life of the Váróterem Projekt, whether through original texts (Sárkány művek, Varjú Karcsi) or reinterpretations of classics (Lázár Ervin, Gáspár Heltai, H.C. Andersen). This time, the creators — director László Rumi, graphic artist Rebeka Kolcza, and actress Emese Erdei— turn again to a well-known tale by the great Danish storyteller. Themes of otherness, belonging to a community, acceptance and exclusion, and growing up make the story profoundly relevant to all ages, including the youngest audiences.
This is László Rumi’s third production with our troupe. His first collaboration was paraFabulák, a reinterpretation of Gáspár Heltai’s animal fables through object animation, followed by Borsópróba, an adaptation of Andersen’s The Princess and the Pea. These plays were performed 143 times across various locations in Transylvania.
You may have seen Emese Erdei in many of our productions, including last season’s Alkésztisz, Hullám, and Hol nem volt. She has also proven herself in solo performances, such as the adult puppet play Ilonka. Now, she takes the stage alone once again, bringing to life a variety of flat puppet characters designed by Rebeka Kolcza.
The performance is recommended for children aged 4 and above. We warmly invite everyone interested!
